I remember the old posters that used to hang in movie theater
lobbies explaining the Motion Picture Association of America
ratings system to patrons-a vertical ladder of movie ratings G
through NC-17 accompanied by cartoon renditions of the appropriate
audiences for each.

Rutherford Road is a wide stretch of Canadian asphalt that
shoots from east to west across a small piece of the suburban
sprawl emanating north from Toronto.

Drugs, alcohol, groupies - none of these cures for homesickness
will be on the Badger Days tour when it travels across Wisconsin
this summer. For those unfamiliar with Badger Days, it's a tour of
Badger coaches to cities around the state.

Once their collegiate careers conclude, most UW athletes move on
to lives that do not revolve around constant training and
high-level competition. There are a select few, however, who move
on to professional and even Olympic competition.

I had to write about Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All at some
point. Over the last year, critics and bloggers have written
hundreds of articles, think pieces and columns about the already
infamous Los Angeles rap ""family"" led by Hodgy
Beats, Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator. Admittedly, the glut
appeared about six months ago, when the crew finally broke into the
mainstream in a very large and boisterous way.

I saw ""Drive"" last week. Great film. It had a cool,
1980s feel, interesting camera angles and a fitting
soundtrack. Seeing it was an all-around enjoyable time.

While a few dedicated dreamers still
strolling to class in cargo shorts and flip-flops may be ignoring
the inevitable, the ugly truth is that summer is over and the fall
semester is upon us. It's hard to ignore the clearly inverse
relationship going on here—the temperature keeps dropping and the
homework keeps piling up.

The most recent release in a trademark legacy of tastefully poor
grammar, MusiqInTheMagiq features the latest from soul
singer-songwriter Musiq Soulchild, a relative sideshow even after
numerous platinum releases. A stylistic step back from previous
albums, most recently 2008's Onmyradio, Magiq takes Soulchild back
to his roots in contemporary R&B—a genre on the wane as of
late, in spite of its widespread popularity scarcely a decade ago
(here's to you, Ginuwine). Indeed, given his original debut in
2000, Soulchild's eclectic style hails distinctly from the late 90s
heyday of hip-hop soul, and MusiqInTheMagiq embodies this
perfectly.

It's a name that your parents are probably more familiar with, but
one that our younger generation shouldn't just shove aside: The
commercially and artistically successful Alison Krauss. Whether
recording solo or with her band, Union Station, Krauss is the
goddess of modern bluegrass music (not an oxymoron, I promise). She
has the distinction of being the singer who has won the most Grammy
awards of any artist, and she owes three of those (and her
subsequent hop over Aretha Franklin for the honor) to the
collaborative album with Robert Plant, Raising Sand, which
took home Album of the Year among others in 2007.

When walking through the doors of the Alliant Energy Center Friday
night, I couldn't help but pause and say, ""holy shit."" Many
others likely had the same reaction as they were greeted by the
pulsating, sweaty mob of bodies occupying the center of the room at
Bassnectar's sold out show, a thick cloud of smoke hovering above
them. Even from the back of the huge warehouse venue, I could feel
the strong bass and yells of the fans in the soles of my feet. Two
days later and my ears are still ringing.

Sean Daley, better known as Slug, is a storyteller. He and his
producer Ant, make up the hip-hop duo Atmosphere. On their 2010
double-EP To All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade Holy,
Slug doesn't rap to encourage a behavior change or impart a good
moral, but rather talks about what he knows. Every track on this EP
was simple; Atmosphere created a glimmer of hope for its fans
looking to innovative future albums.

I am often astounded by the things people do in public. This is not
to say I myself do not partake in questionable activities from time
to time before the eyes of hundreds of strangers, but I try to keep
it to a minimum. Every time I venture outside my apartment, though,
I never fail to witness some borderline inappropriate behavior by
my fellow pedestrians or classmates.
