For Alberta native Saige Pacholok, outdoor hockey is nothing
new. Growing up in Canada, Pacholok has plenty of experience
playing on frozen ponds, meaning there are sure to be flashbacks to
her childhood when she takes to the ice for the Camp Randall Hockey
Classic.

Back in 2001, a little known band named Fridge released their
album Happiness. The album consisted of nine tracks with
titles such as ""Cut Up Piano and Xylophone"" and ""Sample and
Clicks,"" exemplifying the band's ability to make musical ideas out
of chopped and looped fragments. Although Happiness lacked
full-fledged songs and barely registered a blip on the radar of the
American music scene, the album demonstrated Fridge frontman Kieran
Hebden's capacity to craft gorgeous melodies and truly unique
grooves.

Let's admit something that has been fairly obvious for the past
few months: this semester was pretty slow for news. Compare this to
last fall, and there's no presidential election, no new chancellor.
There were no big local electoral races or campus decisions like
last spring's ASM constitution vote either. Overall, it was an
incredibly boring time to be a politically involved Badger.

There is something to be said about slow and steady. The Notwist
will no doubt have a poor showing in any artist of the decade
lists, but they still deserve recognition for being a pinnacle of
steadfast quality and craftsmanship in music. The six year gap in
between their first release, Neon Golden,
and the experimentally orchestrated The Devil, You +
Me only serves to underscore the quiet mystique
around the band. Before the recording of the elegiac and
pensive Neon Golden, the Notwist
found footing in myriad genres, each one providing a new
perspective that found its way into this decade.

Before the 2000s, post-rock music was virtually unknown to
anyone other than serious music geeks. Sigur Ros changed that when
their second album, Agaetis byrjun, was released
internationally at the beginning of the decade. It was the first
almost anybody outside of Iceland had heard of the band, and in the
history of first impressions, it was a landmark moment.

There is a moment in the Explosions in the Sky song ""First
Breath After the Coma,"" when the listener is enveloped by the
combination of sound and the song title. It may have taken five
minutes to get there, but the patience pays off. Explosions in the
Sky achieve a variety of emotions without the use of discernable
vocals, a challenge that often pays big when done right, and in
this case it truly does. But it makes us ask, ""why?"" What can we
get across in music that we can't express with words?

What are some things that I should know if I am going to get
my clit pierced? I have been hearing a lot about [genital
piercings] lately, and it's something I have been thinking about. I
found some stuff on the Internet, but I am not sure what is right
and what isn't, so do you have any advice?

After a rough season-opening series, which saw a highly touted
Wisconsin men's hockey team take just one point from Colorado
College, the task of starting the 2009-'10 season well will not get
any easier. The Badgers must now leave the friendly confines of the
Kohl Center and head to the intimidating environment of Minnesota
State's Verizon Wireless Center to take on the Mavericks Friday and
Saturday.

For the first four games of the 2009 season, Wisconsin
quarterback Scott Tolzien looked like a bona-fide Big Ten star

part of a first-year starting quarterback facing elite competition
for the first time in his college career.

Weather continues to get colder, bicycle transportation is less
comfortable and fresh produce is becoming more difficult to obtain.
When the sound of milk curdling is echoing throughout the empty and
cavernous fridge and the cupboards are occupied by nothing but
crumbs from an old box of cereal, it might be time to head to the
local grocery store.
