Since it is generally considered polite to introduce oneself prior
to sex, please allow me to do so. My name is Erica, and I'm your
friendly campus sex columnist. My column runs on Fridays (just in
time for the weekend!), and you might occasionally find me in the
opinion section if something really juicy comes up.

Bears Climb Mountains members Rickey Reyes (lead vocals, electric
guitar), Javi Reyes (bass guitar), Dusty Skele (electric guitar),
Mike Conrardy (drums) and Joe Fadden (acoustic guitar, backing
vocals) were kind enough to invite me into the apartment of Rickey
Reyes and Fadden to sit in on their practice, where they ran
through the set they will perform at the Mifflin Street Block Party
this Saturday.

Many bands' stories start in college dorm rooms or quads, the
places where the band members first met. Chicago and Boston natives
Ezra Furman and the Harpoons' story, however, literally starts in
their dorm rooms, where the band not only met, but also recorded
its first full-length album. While lead singer Ezra Furman does
admit the cramped room presented certain challenges and the group
was harangued about constant noise complaints, being college
students made the setup necessary. Despite the confinement, the
album was released successfully.

At Sundance this year, I noticed a particularly strong marketing
push by the festival to promote that about six of the movies at the
festival were already available to be streamed by the home viewer
via various video-on-demand outlets. This is the second year
festival titles have been simultaneously released at Sundance and
in the digital market. In conjuncture with the 2010 festival,
YouTube launched its own streaming movie-rental service by offering
several contemporary and previous festival selections. And in the
year since YouTube stuck its toe in the movie-streaming pool, a
variety of other outlets have emerged and are jumping in the pool
themselves.

There are 67 games in the NCAA March Madness Men's basketball
tournament, and the Badgers will only have to play six of them
before they can cut down the nets in Houston. That leaves 61 games
and 62 teams unaccounted for. Yet most of us are going to sit in
front of the television and let Bryant Gumble direct us through
almost all of them anyways. My point is: There are abundant
opportunities for subordinate rooting interest to heighten your
March Madness experience, no matter how devoted you are to
Buckingham U.

As a preface, I am not an artist. I am, however, an art
appreciator. Yes, to some extent, this means I'll be that person
museum-hopping and giving impromptu tours and opinions to anyone
brave enough to accompany me (usually my hapless, science-steeped
boyfriend). But that is not the limit of my artistic appreciation;
I look for the artistry, the aesthetic and symbolic beauty, in
every moment as I move through my surroundings. I fully believe
that one can find this artistry in anything and everything, if one
looks close enough. Perhaps this means I am a contemplative
observer of our visual culture––or just a sight junkie.

Following a weekend of weather atypical of February (and another
Badger victory against another inadequate Ohio State team) I'm
finding it easier to turn my sights toward the spring elections in
April. Happily, election season has two components, and the first
chance to vote in 2011 is today—the spring primaries.

OK cool, I'm not late. Prince really knows how to put the pep
in my step. That power walk was worth it; I'm a little sweaty, but
shit happens. And besides, I'd rather be a little sweaty when no
one is here rather than be the sweaty-and-out-of-breath mess that
stumbles into class five minutes late. Where to sit, where to sit?
Are there any lefty desks? Anywhere? Nope. OK. That seat has a nice
view of the lake. Now I can watch ducks waddle on the ice. No, no.
Don't sit there. You'll get too distracted. There aren't any ducks
in Wisconsin in January anyway, right? Whatever. There's a nice
spot facing a concrete wall. Perfect.

Dorm-bound freshmen with random room assignments undoubtedly
experience some level of anxiety when meeting their roommate for
the first time. After all, the person with whom you share such
small quarters for an entire year needs to be someone you can
tolerate, and maybe even look forward to seeing every day. Will he
or she be normal? Fun? A partier? A bookworm?

I used to have a pretty good friend named Gary. He was a good
enough fellow, and we used to shoot fireworks off at each other
down by the creek every once in a while. Once we even made a pretty
ambitious bike jump over a really deep ravine and Gary, who used to
be pretty daring, ended up shattering his pelvis in several places.
After the ""Pelvis Incident"" Gary was confined to an ""ass-cast,""
as we called it, and went into self-instated retirement for what
ended up being several years. The last few words I ever heard Gary
speak still run through my mind from time to time:
