A strong hand planted stiffly on my shoulder and
sent shivers through my body, freezing every muscle as I stood on
my host family's front lawn in Ethiopia. I slowly turned as my eyes
traveled up a large arm and over to the other arm, which was
grasping an AK-47. I looked up at his face as he glanced back at
two other armed men and his lips parted into a grin.

As I prepare for my senior (but probably not last) year of
college and am forced to start thinking about sucky, real life, I
have become frighteningly aware of the fact that nothing—not one
single aspect of my life—is grown up.

After writing my column for two years, it's time to say goodbye.
Although all I really want to do right now is curl up in a ball and
cry while excessively thanking my weekly readers (assuming they
actually exist), I thought a good way to end things would be to
clear up a few misconceptions.

Japandroids just might be the saviors of garage rock. Selfless
and bursting with energy, they play music for all the right
reasons. Heck, they streamed their entire discography for free on
their Facebook page, including Post-Nothing, their newest
release, months before its actual release. Self-described as ""2
sweethearts still naïve enough to think they'll never sell out,""
Japandroids are just like the band your two friends had in high
school, only they're way, way better.

Last week was Sexual Health Week. You may have gotten the email
(which was not, just so everyone is perfectly clear, soliciting
anyone for sex or trying to sell anyone ""pornagraphy""). Thursday
was Sexual Health Fest on Library Mall, and while we were setting
up the tables, I looked at my Sex Out Loud coworkers, smiled a huge
smile, and exclaimed (at typical Erica volume), ""I LOVE MY
JOB!""

Nothing about ""Hunger"" is easy to watch. The move is
unforgiving, brutal and frustrating. It contains very little
dialogue, and many scenes will make you want to avert your eyes.
But don't look away. It's worth it.

Jokes about whales using cell phones, songs performed in
cardboard robot costumes and minute-long theatric fades to end
songs are what make the Flight of the Conchords more than just a
musical act.

After losing last year's Herald-Cardinal softball game, a
slugfest that ended in a 16-15 Cardinal victory, former Herald
sports editor Ben Voelkel wasn't going to let his squad fall
again.

I was talking on the phone with my friend about TV-quoting the
other day when something she said rang true: There was nothing that
brought out the feminist in her more than when a group of boys was
rapidly quoting television shows and she could easily contribute.

Last week, MTV dropped its much-anticipated bombshell with the
premiere of ""College Life,"" filmed right here at UW-Madison.
Without going into too much detail, we saw an edited and
chronologically inaccurate compilation of partying, relationship
trouble and problems assimilating to the local culture, all through
the stories of four freshmen. The general student consensus
afterward was a resounding two thumbs down.

""State of Play"" is a terrible movie with an amazingly astute
marketing strategy. By shamelessly pandering to media luddites with
nostalgia-inducing montages of a reporter's life, it softened the
hearts of some of the most jaded film critics (it made A.O. Scott
cry, for God's sake). Although the movie itself fails to
intelligently show the lack of objectivity in reporting today,
perhaps the critical response it has received does exactly
that.

There are noticeable pangs of desperation in Wednesday's
anti-tax Tea (Taxed Enough Already) Party. Although ostensibly
dubbed a grassroots uprising, the event is probably more accurately
described as a coordinated and concerted partisan campaign. The
Republican National Committee's website allows for creating
send-a-tea-bag postcards. An entire cable news channel (guess which
one) has been actively promoting the day of protest, and the main
website for the Tax Day Tea Party event is funded by conservative
groups.

So, how did your date go? Will you see him again?"" I asked my
friend, who was telling me about a date with some guy she was set
up with by a friend of a friend of a creep.

On March 20, 2009, the Wall Street Journal printed an article
about a new trend among middle-schoolers: smoking Smarties. To
imitate smoking, students crush the candy into a fine powder, pour
it into their mouths and blow out the dust. The following are
confiscated correspondence from kids caught passing notes in Ms.
Tayler's eighth-grade class.

Like most siblings with a five-year age gap, my brother and I
got off to a rough start. When he was two and I freaked out because
he stole my genius idea of Beanie Baby bungee jumping off the
balcony, which had more of the effect of Beanie Baby suicide, I
locked myself in my room crying for hours.

I'm hoping to leave behind over Spring Break!"" Relax,
Stereotypical Reader, this is no last-minute lecture. I know
vacations are all about having fun and living life to the
fullest.
