What does it mean to be a grown-up? Be it the 18-year-old incoming freshman or the 22-year-old senior at the cusp of graduation, adulthood and the pressure to grow up hovers above both. But do any one of us even know what it means to be a grown-up? I’ve spoken to people in their late twenties and almost thirties who scoff when referred to as a grown-up. So clearly, it isn’t the state of holding a professional full-time job, living by yourself in an apartment or seriously seeing someone. But what is it then? We’re told that turning into the milestone of our legal age and entering college puts us into the world of those that have grown up at some level. We’re also told that graduating college and entering what is sadly called the real world is the mark of adulthood. And yet we neither feel nor think of ourselves as grown-ups.

“Vanity project” isn’t exactly an insult. Contrary to certain websites’ critiques, “vanity project” can actually be a compliment. It represents an artist creating for themselves, building a work specifically for and around their ego. It means that, whatever the product is, it’s an expression of that artist at that single moment in time: the “honesty” that so many music fans feel is missing in modern music.

Think back to the last time somebody said or did something that got under your skin. Whether they did it intentionally or unintentionally, it happened, and it got your blood boiling. Now, I want you to imagine that, no matter how scathing or hurtful whatever that person said or did to you, it’s no longer okay for you to be upset by it. You can have a straw to suck it up. This is the reality people who don’t goose-step to the beat of the conservative drum must face, and it needs to change.

In today’s digital society, the relationship between the fan and the athlete has become closer than ever. Social media allows fans to have a more personal relationship with players than ever before. While it’s great to be immersed in the off-the-field lives of our favorite athletes, this increasing connection often does more harm than good.

So as finals dawn on us once again, many of you will be looking for ways to less productively divert your time and eradicate stress (while preserving brain cells). And while, as a film student, watching films “technically” counts as studying for me, it remains the absolute perfect way to kill a couple of hours. So without further ado, I humbly present a list of films, from old favorites to new friends, with which to amuse, thrill, reflect on and altogether distract yourself this, or any, exam’s eve (and for bonus points, most of them are on Netflix).

“Jump Around” or beers on the Terrace? Plaza Tavern or Paul’s Club? J.J. Watt or Frank Kaminsky? Gettin’ it on in the Memorial Library cages or on top of Bascom Hill? You got to decide in the latest edition of The Daily Cardinal’s Reader’s Choice Awards.

Seconds after Wisconsin’s loss to Duke, as the camera swept through a sea of heartbroken fans, it paused on one fan dressed as “Po,” the red Teletubby whose face captured the emotions of Badgers across the country.

Is it just me or do midterms seem to be endless? It’s like the first three weeks of a semester is the grace period: the time when college is the rowdy, sparkling adventure we always thought it would be. After that, fun’s over, and exams pointlessly given the prefix “mid” seem to consume every minute of our lives until the end of the semester. Some exams are less dreadful than others, of course, but for my friends and I nothing is more daunting and horrifying than calculus.

Like most everything else, television is all about relationships. From “The Sopranos” to “Community,” all great shows use personal relationships as a fulcrum to lift up the rest of the plot around them. However, when shows (especially dramas) forgot about the world outside of a marriage or a friendship, when things turn inward just a little bit too much, your show starts to suck.

The first question you might have about a memoir from Sonic Youth frontwoman/bass guitarist Kim Gordon is: “What is she gonna say about ex-husband Thurston Moore?” Gordon anticipated this. Fittingly, “Girl in a Band” starts in media res, with a chapter called “The End.”

As the UW-Madison campus steps into March, another semester is well underway. This is especially true for the First Wave Hip Hop and Urban Arts Learning Community. A portion of the work includes the 8th Cohort’s recent performance for the 2015 Rotary Ethics Symposium, the strong participation in the recent Moonshine showcase and the Womyn's History Month Celebration/Showcase.

College Court was not at the top of my go-to destinations list. I had a lot of enemies there. Or maybe I hoped I had a lot of enemies there. The line gets sort of blurry.
