The first thing I see outside the venue of Fetty Wap’s concert is a blur of teenagers. I’m convinced that the rate of underage drinking at this concert is as high as the percentage of white students that attend UW-Madison. A guy cries to his friend about getting kicked out for being drunk, but what do you expect when you’re half standing and throwing up? He proceeds to blatantly curse at the security guard, then runs away, comes back and does this about four times.

Storytelling has always been at the core of all folk music. A talented lyricist in tandem with the right instrumentals has the ability to transport you to another time, place or world. Singer, songwriter, harpist and pianist Joanna Newsom did just that with her skilled band. While touring her successful 2015 album Divers, they gave two hours of next-level, avant-garde, indie-folk story time at The Orpheum.

I sometimes see the news headlines where cases of corporal punishment have turned out to be outright violence and abuse. I don’t think I am so distant from this issue as I grew up in a time and place where such punishment was an acceptable form of discipline. Based on my personal experiences, I want to argue against it.

Comfortable. Cozy. Soft. Trendy. Casual. Stylish. Cute. These are all words that my peers replied with when I asked them about the popular female clothing brand, Brandy Melville. This brand has gained an insane amount of popularity in the last year. The products are, in my opinion, just as described—a socially acceptable way to wear pajamas outside.

In light of the terrorist attacks in Paris, conservative America chomped at the bit to try and use the tragedy to rationalize why we shouldn’t invite Syrian refugees into our nation. Without waiting for all of the details of the horrific event to come out (including the fact that the attacks were primarily executed by European nationals), conservatives had already made up their minds that opening our country to refugees is to invite the Islamic State to our doorstep.

Human beings are notorious for their careless cruelty to each other—it’s what we’re good at. Being callous and exercising selfishness come easily to many. Is it any wonder that murder is still rampant in the world? We’ve educated ourselves and become the most advanced humanity’s ever been in every facet of technology, and yet we still kill. In many ways we’re still no different than the cavemen who came before us, bludgeoning each other with clubs. We do it with more finesse and sophistication now, but we still have the same blatant lack of respect for human life.

It was a brisk fall afternoon on campus, and I had just handed over a crisp $10 bill in exchange for a foil-wrapped Korean burrito. I savored the delicious cocktail flavor, made even more precious to me knowing that I was directly jeopardizing my rent for the luxury of food cart cuisine. A fair trade, in my book. My friend and I began to look for a spot to sit down and stuff our faces with our feast, but as we walked down Library Mall, we encountered quite the crowd forming a ring.

Frank Kaminsky was the best player in Wisconsin basketball history. By the time he left for the NBA, he ranked ninth all-time in total points, eighth in field goals, seventh in field-goal percentage, first in blocks, 11th in rebounds and, believe it or not, 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio. All this despite playing nearly 500 fewer minutes than anyone in the top 10. He played just 8.9 minutes per game in his first two seasons with the Badgers.

It was a rather uneventful Week 8 for the Big Ten. Ohio State and Michigan State both kept their undefeated records intact, Penn State edged past Maryland and Bart Houston laid the foundation for his 2016 Heisman campaign by helping Wisconsin best Illinois.

It’s safe to say that Bart Houston had thrown a myriad of touchdown passes before Saturday’s 24-13 win against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Yet it’s not hyperbolic to say that Houston’s two touchdown passes on Saturday were unlike any he’s ever thrown prior to this weekend.

Where were you on October 10, 2015, the day Titus Andronicus conquered the world? Perhaps you were out with friends, or maybe in a library studying? It would be easy to have been caught up in the happenings of another Saturday night, but in a tiny stage just west of the Capitol Square, beneath the dimming lights and swinging amplifiers of The Frequency, Titus Andronicus usurped the title of “greatest band in the world.”

Let me start off by saying that this album is most definitely not what I was expecting. Instead of a parody album with all lyrics replaced by cat sounds (as I expected), Meow the Jewels is an album of Run the Jewels 2 remixes done by prolific producers featuring the original lyrics over crunchy, minimalist, dark tracks with a few cat sounds methodically placed within the productions.

Wavves’ Nathan Williams is not ready to grow up. On the contrary, he seems to want nothing more than to Benjamin Button back to ninth grade where he can bask in all of his confused, bored, self-doubting teenage glory. Fortunately for us, this contradicting adult-teen-angst makes for fantastic songwriting, showcased in every pop-punk, noise rock infused minute of Wavves’ fifth installment, V.

It’s difficult to read campus newspapers recently without seeing accounts of sexual assault, yet the reactions of women on campus have been missing from this deluge of media. Whether the articles in question have been reports on the alarming number of campus assaults, accounts of local atrocities like the rape and near-homicide that occurred on the Capital City Bike Path, discussion of college surveys on the topic, news of reactionary student organizations or opinion pieces, these stories have not represented the fear and disgust expressed in conversation by many of the women I know.

In the past week, there has been an influx of headlines shaming and indicting various corporations, business owners and other major or minor players in the world of commerce. To rattle off a couple, a bar was forced to compensate a woman for needing surgery after ingesting a liquid nitrogen shot, and a deposed peanut company owner is being sentenced to 28 years for conspiracy involved in the death of nine people from products tainted with salmonella. It seems like businesses everywhere can’t catch a break for their malfeasances.
