Coach Bret Bielema and the UW coaching staff were faced with several tough decisions before announcing the depth chart for Saturday's opener against the Northern Illinois Huskies. It's likely that the public was slightly thrown off by a depth chart that includes shared duties at both quarterback and running back.

At the conclusion of spring practice, Bret Bielema had Dustin Sherer penciled in as quarterback for the 2009 football season. Scott Tolzien is glad that pencil came with an eraser because he, not Sherer, will start under center for the Badgers on Saturday night against Northern Illinois.
If you want to put a positive spin on it, you might say the Wisconsin football team is ""flying under the radar"" as the 2009 season starts.
A major storyline of fall camp for Wisconsin centers on the indefinite suspensions of senior defensive backs Shane Carter and Aubrey Pleasant, but the Badger secondary is not fretting about the absences.
Wisconsin suspended senior defensive backs Aubrey Pleasant and Shane Carter indefinitely Aug. 15. Head coach Bret Bielema did not disclose the reasons for the suspensions.

Last season, Wisconsin received shaky play at best from quarterbacks Allan Evridge and Dustin Sherer. Evridge graduated, and Sherer has been in an intense quarterback competition with freshman Curt Phillips. Regardless of who wins the battle, the quarterback play for Wisconsin this fall will be the most important and intriguing element of the offense.
Wisconsin began last season with dreams of capturing its first Big Ten title since 2000 and playing in the Rose Bowl, largely because of its talented and experienced defense. But in 2008 the defensive unit was mediocre and inconsistent. With the departure of six opening-day starters from last year, the Badgers will need high levels of production from inexperienced players and improved play from returning starters to be successful in 2009.
With the year nearing its unavoidable conclusion and seniors nearly ready (or for some far beyond ready) to end their stay in Madison, it only seems appropriate to reflect on the athletic feats and disappointments which the class of '09 has borne witness to.

""Informers' a boring trip: An inconsistent and overacting cast is just one of the problems that plagues Gregor Jordan's woefully unfulfilling depiction of Bret Easton Ellis' collection of short stories, 'The Informers.""
Gregor Jordan's ""The Informers"" is a new window into the world that Bret Easton Ellis has been creating since the publication of ""Less Than Zero"" in 1985. It is a world of recurring and interchangeable characters, extravagant wealth and nihilistic depravity. This can be seen in the film adaptation of his novel ""American Psycho,"" which augments the text nicely, largely due to an impressive performance by Christian Bale, and has become a unique reference point for Ellis, who comments on the movie version in his quasi-autobiographical ""Lunar Park."" The film version of ""The Informers,"" however, has been ravaged in reviews thus far. Although it is certainly not a great film—it is mediocre—I feel that some of these critics might have missed the point.
Even though the Flight of the Conchords may be the bigger name on their nationwide tour, opening act and seasoned comedian Eugene Mirman has been keeping audiences entertained for years. From his various Youtube videos to his established role on HBO's ""Flight of the Conchords"" and his work on Adult Swim's ""Delocated,"" Mirman has seen it all. I was especially excited to talk to Mirman, as he is arguably the funniest alum of my high school, though Rachel Dratch gives him a run for his money.
Jokes about whales using cell phones, songs performed in cardboard robot costumes and minute-long theatric fades to end songs are what make the Flight of the Conchords more than just a musical act.
The Wisconsin football spring game is hardly a foolproof look at how the team will play in the fall.
Badger fans' long wait to see their 2009 Wisconsin football team is just about over. Head coach Bret Bielema and the Badgers will hold the annual spring game tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Camp Randall Stadium. Admission is free and the players are excited to wrap up the spring by showcasing the team to the fans.
The UW Athletic Department announced Tuesday it has reached an agreement with ESPN that will ban sideline reporter Erin Andrews from all future sporting events in Madison.
After years of outcry, the UW Athletic Department is finally giving the students what they want by announcing the return of Division I baseball to Madison. To both provide sufficient funding to the baseball program and satisfy Title IX regulations, the Department of Athletics will drop Wisconsin's FBS football program, effective immediately.
