After thorough investigation this spooky season, it is with deep regret that the Almanac reports that candy corn is still indeed a thing. Every grocery and convenience store surveyed in Madison carried the vile candy even though most of the store shelves that they occupied were gathering copious amounts of dust. A few were even covered in cobwebs.

To most people, servitude ended in the United States long ago. To others, this form of oppression and inequality is still present in daily life. Just because there are some laws that have banned traditional forms of bondage, it has not necessarily banned the forms of subjugation living right under our noses. One main form of modern-day servitude that persists are unpaid internships.

I’m a junior studying biochemistry and will be starting a lab this upcoming semester in an x-ray laboratory. As part of my work, I’ll be helping to conduct a variety of x-ray diffraction analyses to determine and study the structure of several different molecules. As part of my required lab equipment, the syllabus says I need to have safety glasses that can help protect me from gamma ray radiation. I have a pair of Oakley sunglasses I got on spring break and I’m wondering if those are appropriate enough to protect my eyes?
