Food is something some of us take for granted. While most Americans have access to food, not all have access to healthy food and reliable sources to obtain it. Communities without accessible grocery stores are known as food deserts. Even agriculturally rich areas like Wisconsin have food deserts — which are a primary cause of food insecurity. Contrary to popular belief food deserts are quite prevalent in both urban and rural areas. In fact, being on UW’s campus likely puts you in a food desert. While you may be surrounded by dozens of cafes and restaurants, there are not many options within walking distance for affordable, healthy food for students and others living in the downtown area.

From unpaid to paid labor, our lives as college students revolve around work. Working to have enough money for weekly groceries, to pay tuition, to help make ends meet at home. Working to get “experience,” to build a resume, to get that dream entry-level job after graduation. Working to keep your GPA afloat and to get through yet another week of classes and midterms.

If you’re like me and have no sex, you probably spend a lot of time thinking about Elon Musk, easily the worst person on the planet — yes, even worse than Tom Brady.

Well, the Wisconsin Badgers (17-12 overall, 10-10 Big Ten) have somehow finally crawled out of the Shawshank Redemption-esque sewer that is the Big Ten Conference this year and have emerged in Indiana with a No. 9 seed for the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately for Greg Gard and company, the Badgers got an incredibly unfavorable matchup in the No. 8 seed North Carolina Tar Heels (18-10 overall, 10-6 ACC).

Shots rang out across Wisconsin on Monday, Feb. 22, as the state’s first wolf hunt in seven years took place. Packs of dogs raced across the fresh snow as hunters quickly overshot the harvest quota of 119. The hunt was closed just two days after it had begun as the DNR continued to receive reports of successful kills.

In preparation for our first fully online semester of college, my roommates and I sprung for the faster of the AT&T and internet packages. This package included a complimentary subscription to HBO Max. While the speed of the wireless connection may have been overstated, HBO’s vast library of original content became a TV staple in my apartment. I watched several recommended titles in the early months, but no show has quite dominated my binging hours like The Sopranos.

Fourteen turnovers. A nine-minute field goal drought to end the game. A five-second violation with under a minute despite having a timeout. And yet, they still only lost by single digits.

As I was browsing Twitter this week, I came across an unfamiliar face in the UW-Madison community. Member of the Phi Alpha Fraternity — notorious for excessive drinking and leaving mounds of trash on the frozen lake after dartys (as well as being completely made up). Tanner Smith left a tweet that piqued my interest: “Listen. If you abolish Greek life, who’s gonna do the dirty work of making Madison objectively worse? This city needs us.”

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Interfraternity Council organized “Mend Mendota” — a cleanup event on Lake Mendota Monday afternoon — after trash left on the ice from weekend gatherings garnered social media attention. Members of eight IFC chapters and one Panhellenic Association sorority gathered on the melting ice to pick up trash left behind after parties over the weekend.

The No. 25 Badgers (16-11 overall, 10-10 Big Ten) and the No. 5 Iowa Hawkeyes (20-7 overall, 14-7 Big Ten) were on their way to a classic Big Ten finish. With three and a half minutes to go, the game was tied at 63 points apiece. It had been tight the whole way down. The Badgers were finally hitting their shots and were playing lockdown defense; Wooden Award candidate Luka Garza and Badger kryptonite Jordan Bohannon kept the Hawkeyes in the game.

Back in 2007, now Marvel creative officer and household name Kevin Feige had an idea. Why wouldn’t he take every property the company owned, put them in the same sandbox and let loose the world’s greatest collection of superheroes on the same screen, at the same time?

Early last week, Alex Lasry, the 33-year-old son of billionaire Wall Street baron and Bucks owner Marc Lasry, announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2022. The seat is currently occupied by gaffe-prone Trump loyalist Ron Johnson, so the Democrats will be gunning hard for it come election season.

The No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers (10-8 Big Ten, 16-9 overall) have been in somewhat of a tail spin over the last month, posting just a 3-5 record over the last 28 days, including losses to all four ranked teams they played.

The No. 23 Wisconsin Badgers (10-8 Big Ten, 16-9 overall) showed heart late in the game against the No. 5 Illinois Illini (15-4 Big Ten, 19-6 overall) to climb back from a 12 point deficit in just two minutes, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win in the end, losing 74-69.

If the last four years of American political theatrics have taught us anything, it is that politicians and their kin are often made out to be celebrities, and their supporters are willing to defend their every move by mudslinging at opponents. The cult-like devotion of Trump supporters is likely to persist long into the future of the Republican party. Anyone remotely critical of their leader is immediately labeled communist or socialist, to the point that these words no longer seem to hold meaning. Ad hominem responses are rife in political discourse on social media, and the most die-hard Trump supporters deal almost exclusively in them. However, this is all well documented. Those on the receiving end of the abuse, however, do not receive nearly as much attention, when they probably should.
