The Kohl Center opened its doors on Sunday for the annual Red-White
scrimmage, marking the start of another highly anticipated season
for Wisconsin men's basketball. After 40 minutes of intra-squad
play, team White emerged victorious by a final score of 65-51, led
by senior forward Keaton Nankivil's game-high 22 points.

Back in ninth grade English class, my teacher Mrs. Stocks-Glover
drew a triangular plot diagram on the chalkboard. The linguistic
geometry lesson had one fundamental point—all great stories have a
beginning, a climax and an end. That last bit—the end—is something
that TV series seem to screw up on a regular basis.

In the minds of anyone who watches college basketball, NCAA
Tournament losses stand apart.
(03/22/10 6:00am)
The Wisconsin women's basketball team, appearing in its first
NCAA tournament game since 2002, had a strong amount of momentum
heading into Sunday's first round matchup against Vermont. However,
the Badgers ran into a Catamount team with veteran leadership,
strong poise, and stellar shooting, and fell to Vermont, 64-55.

They say defense wins championships, but having a good offense
doesn't hurt either.

The Wisconsin women's basketball team, receiving its first NCAA
tournament bid since 2002 and just seventh overall, were handsomely
rewarded for their strong efforts all season with a seventh seed.
The Badgers take on the No. 10 seed Vermont Catamounts Sunday at
noon in South Bend, Ind.

War is hell and hell is other people, so it makes sense that the
most hellish part of war isn't necessarily fighting the opposing
forces but working with the people who are supposedly on your side,
as seen in the controversy surrounding the war in Iraq. The whole
situation has since developed a very nefarious ""Bourne"" movie
tone to it with all of the unsavory intelligence wheeling and
dealing that went on behind the scenes. As such, it should have
been a given that ""Bourne"" series director Paul Greengrass and
Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon, would team up to tell that story
in ""Green Zone.""

French developer Quantic Dream has raised the bar high for what
they tout as a new genre of storytelling in their latest PS3
exclusive crime-drama game, ""Heavy Rain."" The basic premise is
this: As he triangulates the identity and whereabouts of a serial
killer and his victim, the player controls four characters,
alternating between a caring father, an insomniac photojournalist,
a drug-addicted FBI criminal profiler and a private
investigator.

It's safe to say that after the Wisconsin women's basketball
team's performance in this past weekend's Big Ten Tournament, the
team is playing their best basketball of the season.
(02/26/10 6:00am)
The Badgers picked up just their fourth road win of the season
with a 78-46 clinic over the Hoosiers last night, marking their
largest margin of victory in a road Big Ten game since their 54-20
win over the University of Chicago in 1942.

Much has been made of Wisconsin's recent propensity to rely on
long-distance shooting. Entering Sunday's game against a much
smaller Northwestern team, along with junior forward Jon Leuer
playing his first home game since his injury, the Badgers had an
opportunity to return to a more balanced offense, and they did that
with enough success to hold off the Wildcats yesterday.

Facing Big Ten champion and No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes, the
Wisconsin women's basketball team fought hard on both ends of the
court for 40 minutes. It was an offensive shootout in which the
Badgers (8-7 Big Ten, 18-8 overall) came up just short in the end,
falling to the Buckeyes (14-2, 26-3), 83-78. That score marks both
the most points scored by Wisconsin this season as well as the most
points surrendered on defense.

In an age where music is as accessible as an ""I'm feeling
lucky"" Google search and a quick click of the ""download"" button,
it's easy to get bogged down by the swarms of artists who claim to
be worthy of your ears. Sometimes, though, a band comes along that
simply cannot be ignored. Such is the case for Local Natives, whose
debut album, Gorilla Manor is as balanced as it is
catchy.

The Grateful Red were given free towels to cheer on the
Wisconsin men's basketball team Saturday against Indiana, but it
was the Hoosiers who threw in the towels moments after the
tip-off.

Down four with just over two minutes remaining before the
Badgers would be hit with their first home loss of the season,
sophomore guard Jordan Taylor split between two Illinois defenders
and saw an open lane to the basket. The lay-up would cut the
Fighting Illini's lead to two, and just like Wisconsin has done all
season in the Kohl Center, they would ride the momentum to escape
defeat.
(02/08/10 6:00am)
Recently Wisconsin (8-3 Big Ten, 18-5 overall) has relied on its
late game heroics to clinch its wins, but in Ann Arbor on Saturday
the Badgers continued what they started last Tuesday against
Michigan State and jumped all over the Wolverines early.
(02/04/10 6:00am)
The Wisconsin women's basketball team (6-5 Big Ten, 16-5
overall) is recovering from a tough loss at home to the
Northwestern Wildcats last Sunday night. After leading by as many
as 14 points in the first half, the Badgers ultimately fell by six.
The loss was their second consecutive defeat at the Kohl
Center.
(02/03/10 6:00am)
One could almost think that home wins over top-10 teams and
dominating Michigan State outside of East Lansing might lose a bit
of their luster with how common it has become for Wisconsin.
(02/03/10 6:00am)
Well that was definitely easier than expected.
