Propelled by a euphoric crowd and yet another heroic performance from senior center Ethan Happ, Wisconsin (6-3 Big Ten, 14-6 overall) defeated Northwestern 62-46 (3-6 Big Ten, 12-8 overall) to win their third consecutive game Saturday. Happ scored the third triple-double in school history, his second of the year. In a victory similar to the early season successes, the Badgers took advantage of Happ’s all-around dominance, a strong defensive performance and hot three-point shooting to halt the Wildcats’ two-game winning streak.

Sophomore forward Nate Reuvers led the way with a career-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Illinois seven-footer Giorgi Bezhanishvilli paced the Illini with 20.

The Academy got many of the categories wrong this year, honoring the wrong films for the wrong nominations. Several of this year's best films were completely or almost completely ignored. The Oscars chose to focus on decent or generally pleasing films instead of the more thought-provoking or daring works of art that remained oblivious to mainstream audiences. Here are the biggest snubs:

There are some moments in a team’s history that live forever in the memory of its fans and those of us fortunate enough to cover its games. Saturday at the Kohl Center, against one of the only two unbeatens remaining in the nation, Wisconsin’s basketball team delivered just such a moment.

A sense of déjà vu permeated Wisconsin’s (3-3 Big Ten, 11-6 overall) loss to Maryland Monday. Terrapin junior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 21 points and knocked down a dagger three-pointer in the final minute as Maryland (4-1, 15-3) held off a late Wisconsin comeback to win 64-60. Sophomore forward Nate Reuvers led the way for the Badgers with a career-high 18 points.

In a matchup of bona fide superstars, the Purdue Boilermakers (3-2 Big Ten, 10-6 overall) and junior guard Carsen Edwards bested senior forward Ethan Happ and the Wisconsin Badgers (3-2, 11-5). In need of a win to keep pace in the Big Ten race, the Badgers instead turned in a sloppy performance, falling 84-80 in overtime despite late heroics at the end of regulation. Here are the key takeaways from the disappointing result.

“Spider-Man” for PS4 comes out the gate in the midst of the superhero craze, and it makes for an incredible experience. Being the first “Spider-Man” console game in nearly five years, there were high expectations for the web-slinger’s latest entry. Thankfully, I’m happy to say that many expectations were met and then shattered over the course of this game. An effective way to see the quality of the title is through its narrative. I’ve never been as engaged with a story in gaming as much as this one, as it felt like I was actually playing through a Marvel movie — action and all. As for gameplay, the leveling system encourages exploration, which is thankfully a joy to do. Simply swinging from building to building, doing tricks and exploring New York City is addictive, and it’s exactly what Spider-Man is all about, putting the player into the hero’s shoes even further. Combat — being another important system of the game — is done creatively and effectively, giving a wide array of options and freedom in how to tackle the bad guys. Different suits and gadgets allow for hundreds of combinations and strategies, making for the most customizable “Spider-Man” game ever. If I was able to choose sequels for games from this year, “Spider-Man” effortlessly makes the list: It’s a must-have from 2018. -Kyle Engels

After opening the season on a 6-0 start, Wisconsin (6-2 overall) struggled to keep the winning record alive during its most recent matchups, but it hopes to snap its two-game losing streak when it hosts the Marshall Thundering Herd (3-4) on Tuesday.

Last season, the Badgers went to Charlottesville to take on a top-ranked Virginia team. They left having scored only 37 points in a humbling loss to the Cavaliers. This year, an improved UW team took on UVA with a chance to win the Battle 4 Atlantis, hoping for some vengeance. While the Badgers were able to break 40 points on this occasion, they return to Madison with the end result unchanged.

This month's “Cardinal Pick” drew inspiration from one of my English classes. My goal for this column was to spend attention solely on women of color, because I wanted to create a space where the voices of these writers could be heard.

Last Wednesday, the Society and Politics committee of the Wisconsin Union Directorate hosted a discussion titled “A Dark Twisted Fantasy? Kanye West in Recent News.” As someone who has listened to West’s music for years and has found deep discomfort in his actions throughout 2018, I was intrigued to see what exactly would be discussed at the event and what others’ opinions on the matters were. I attended the discussion with the intention of mostly being a fly on the wall, occasionally chipping in my two cents.
