Slick Dogs and Ponies, Louis XIV's sophomore album, is an uneven
and unsatisfying effort. After 2005's The Best Little Secrets Are
Kept, the San Fransico-based band became known for fuzzy guitars,
fake English accents and lyrics filthy enough to make Soulja Boy
blush.

When Maja Middleton decided she would attend UW-Madison, she had
only been dating her boyfriend Adrian for a few months. It was the

For Cale Ryan, coming to UW-Madison was a complete change from
the life he left behind in Kemmling, Colo., a small town of 1,100.
He only had 130 people in his high school and 28 in his grade. With
no cliques and everybody being friends, you might think Ryan finds
Madison an alarming transition. After all, not only is it several
times the size of Kremmling, but there are other obvious
differences. The mountains that so vividly define the scenery of
his home have disappeared and made way for flat land and lakes.

Aaron Rea may have landed at UW-Madison by accident. The
18-year-old freshman chose the university because it had a wildlife
ecology major, something UW-Milwaukee, another school he was
considering, did not. A few days before classes started, however,
he found out a college closer to home had a similar program. Had he
known this before, chances are good he would have opted to go
there. After all, he would have been closer to his home in Beloit,
Wis., which would have meant being closer to friends, family and of
course Cassie, his girlfriend of four months.
