A University of Wisconsin-Madison lab researcher was arrested Friday after UWPD responded to reports on an odor and found a “chemical” in the lab he worked in.
UWPD responded at an unidentified campus research lab to a report of an unknown odor coming from an office that was later tested positive for the presence of a chemical. UWPD did not specify which chemical they found.
Makoto Kuroda was investigated and later confessed to UWPD. He was then charged with a second degree reckless endangerment safety, a Class G felony in Wisconsin which can result in up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000. The UWPD release says this is an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
Kuroda is currently being held in Dane County’s Public Safety Building Jail and awaits an initial appearance tomorrow.
UWPD and the university told The Daily Cardinal they had no additional information regarding Kuroda’s arrest. Additional charges may be filed.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
