More than 10 burglaries occurred at The James, a largely-student occupied apartment building on Gorham Street, this weekend, according to the Madison Police Department.
MPD is currently working with The James to investigate the burglaries. Investigators said some of the apartments broken into were left unlocked, with residents inside during the robberies.
The James notified residents of the burglaries on Sunday via email. Management advised residents to lock their doors and windows, close propped doors and avoid allowing unknown individuals to “tailgate” into the building.
Charles Fiesel, a student resident of The James, told The Daily Cardinal he feels safe in his apartment and didn’t anticipate break-ins would happen.
“Most of my friends didn’t lock their doors either because no one thought they had a reason to,” Fiesel said.
MPD is reviewing digital evidence related to a possible suspect, but no arrests have been made.
This is an ongoing investigation.
