Carrington delivers spark the Badgers’ bench is missing

Braedon Carrington has posted double-digit scoring performances in three of his last four games, helping Wisconsin reach five-straight wins.

Backup point guard Braedon Carrington has been a key factor in the Badger’s recent success,  posting double digit performances in three of his last five games, playing his role efficiently and  providing a much-needed spark off the bench.

His hot stretch couldn’t have come at a better time, as Wisconsin has turned around their season by winning five of their last six games.

The 6-foot-5 senior brings a wealth of experience from his long college basketball career, which  included stops in Minnesota and Tulsa. Carrington brings a touch of veteran saviness that fits in well with Wisconsin’s offensive structure. By being fluid, Carrington has positioned himself well to create shots for himself and teammates.

Carrington’s shot-taking is most effective from beyond the arc, shooting 43.8 % from 3 on the season

Against Minnesota, a game in which the Badgers won by three points, he scored a season high 21 points, with all his contributions coming from the 3-point line. His seven 3-pointers were the most made in a game by a Badger this season and second-most in program history

This came after another double-digit performance against Michigan in which he tallied 12 points and hit clutch free-throws to help the Badgers pull off a massive upset against the then-No 2. Wolverines.

After Carrington’s impressive performance at Minnesota, Gard said Carrington’s “numbers speak for himself.”

In Wisconsin’s latest win against Penn State, Carrington entered the game after seven minutes of action and immediately left his mark. Once he subbed in, the Badgers proceeded to go on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes and completely took over the game. Carrington, bringing a smooth and calming confidence, contributed six of those 13 points during this stretch.

He ended up scoring a team-high 17 points, with nine of those points coming in a 73-second span.

Carrington’s minutes have fluctuated throughout the season, and due to his recent stretch, head coach Greg Gard has upped his minutes from 12 minutes a game to 22.5 minutes in the last four games.

“He hasn’t won at a high level, so I think that is a motivating factor. He wants to win,” Gard said.

With a solid starting five in place, Carrington has established himself as the Badgers’ true sixth man. He stays ready, waits for his opportunity and delivers when his number is called. Being a reliable player that Gard can count on, Carrington continues to make a meaningful impact for the Badgers.
