Evers appoints DPI attorney, UW alum to Dane County Circuit Court

Gov. Tony Evers appointed University of Wisconsin Law School graduate Ben Jones to the Dance County Circuit Court filling State Supreme Court Justice Susan Crawford’s vacancy.

Gov. Tony Evers appointed Ben Jones to the Dane County Circuit Court Friday, filling the vacancy created by Justice Susan Crawford’s April election to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Jones’ term will last until July 31, 2026.

Jones, a Monona resident and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin Law School, most recently served as chief legal counsel for theWisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

“Ben Jones will be a great addition to the Dane County Circuit Court,” Evers said in a statement. “His character, intellect and commitment to public service will serve the people of Dane County well.” 

Before working for DPI, Jones was an associate at Weld Riley, S.C. in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he focused on labor and employment law.

“I am honored to accept this appointment by Governor Evers and grateful for the wisdom and guidance my colleagues have shared with me throughout my legal career,” Jones said. “I will carry those collective experiences and values with me to the bench, including the belief that every person deserves equitable and meaningful access to justice.”
