Wisconsin Men's Soccer vs Bradley

Badgers men’s soccer loses 1-2 in physical matchup against Rutgers

The Badgers fell short in a highly physical match that resulted in six total yellow cards.

The Wisconsin men’s soccer team lost 1-2 against Rutgers Friday despite the game being tied in the second half.

The Badgers came into this game 4-3-5 after an upsetting 1-1 tie against Bradley University. They hoped to get their first away win of the season and improve their away record of 0-2-2, but that was a daunting task given Rutgers’ home record of 2-1-2.

The Badgers could not find the back of the net in the first half. They were shut out in the first half and allowed Rutgers to lead 0-1. Rutgers’ first-half goal came in the 21st minute from midfielder Jackson Temple, who scored off of a throw-in pass.

The Badgers tied the game in the 48th minute with a goal from Wisconsin forward Thomas Raimbault after a spectacular passing display from the Wisconsin trio of Tim Bielic, Markie Hrvojevic and Raimbault.

The game was extremely fast-paced, especially after Raimbault’s game-tying goal. Wisconsin seemed to take the lead with a 55th minute goal by Hrvojevic, but the goal was waived off for an offsides call against Hrvojevic.

Rutgers eventually took the lead in the last 20 minutes of the game with a goal from Rutgers midfielder Curt Calov, who rebounded the ball off the crossbar and back into the net after Wisconsin goalkeeper Nate Crockford saved a previous Rutgers shot attempt.

Both teams accumulated a total of six yellow cards Friday, the second-most yellow cards given in a Badgers men’s soccer game this season. Wisconsin’s Sept. 1 game against Kentucky remains at the top with seven.

The Badgers remain winless in away games with an away record of 0-3-2 and an overall record of 4-4-5. They will look to get their first away win of the season this upcoming Friday against Ohio State.
