Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz announced he will enter the transfer portal Sunday evening.
In his announcement on Twitter, Mertz expressed thanks to his fellow teammates, coaches and support staff.
“I am grateful for my time as a Badger, my time in Madison has taught me lessons that go far beyond the football field,” he wrote.
Despite entering Madison as the program’s highest rated quarterback prospect ever, Mertz failed to truly live up to the expectations — recording a 38 touchdown to 26 interception ratio in his three seasons starting.
The Wisconsin junior will enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
“I have decided that I will be entering the transfer portal in pursuit of my next opportunity,” he wrote. “I will be entering with 2 years of eligibility.”
After senior Chase Wolf graduates and freshman Deacon Hill enters the transfer portal, the only remaining quarterbacks on the Wisconsin roster will be freshmen Myles Burkett and walk-on Marshall Howe.
