The Wisconsin Partnership Program at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health announced an additional $1.2 million grant in COVID-19 Response funding.
The program established the COVID-19 Response Grant Program last May to support current grantees, develop an efficient COVID-19 grant program and support partnerships across campus. The decision to further fund the program comes after the group was awarded more than $3 million in grants to support communities facing health implications from the pandemic in May 2020.
“We are pleased to support such a broad range of innovative projects, including efforts to support the most vulnerable in our communities and studies that have the potential to advance the fight against this pandemic,” Dean of the School of Medicine and Public Health Robert N. Golden, M.D., said in a release. “The Wisconsin Partnership Program has provided a nimble and highly responsive approach to addressing COVID-19 that is well aligned with our mission to improve health and well-being in Wisconsin.”
Since May, the program has granted COVID-19 researchers with up to $150,000 per study, to find alternative means to diagnose COVID-19 pneumonia and teach the public how to test and maintain face masks.
The new $1.2 million grant will add additional support for UW-Madison researchers to explore educational projects to fight the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
The committee will prioritize proposals that address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 among marginalized communities, the mental and physical health consequences of the pandemic and more COVID-19 testing investments.
The program will also allocate the money spent on community grants that respond to the health needs of Wisconsin’s urban and rural communities.
Letters of intent are due April 8, 2021. The committee expects to fund up to six grants. The maximum award for one-year grants is $100,000, and the maximum award for over one or two years is $200,000.
