The opening of the Nicholas Recreation Center has been delayed due to significant weather and construction challenges.
Expected to open in January 2020, the UW-Madison was recently notified of issues related to construction of the pool, significantly impacting the construction timeline.
Since beginning construction in 2018, Madison has experienced massive flooding in the summer of 2018, as well as a polar vortex in the winter of 2019 — both significantly impacted construction and delaying the completion date.
Due to these unexpected challenges, the NICK will not open in January of 2020 as originally planned. A new opening date has yet to be released.
