In order to make up time for cancelled class, Madison schools announced they would add two extra instructional days to the calendar and extend school hours.

Madison public schools add two days, extend hours to make up for weather cancellations

Madison area students are not off the hook for the cancelled school days this semester, as the Madison Metropolitan School District unveiled plans Tuesday add two days to the school calendar in order to make up for the lost time.

Six days of class have been cancelled so far this year in response to “extraordinary winter weather,” leading to the district’s decision to extend instruction hours.

To make up for it, students will report to school on Mar. 18 and Jun. 12, two days previously scheduled to be for staff only. Middle and high school students were originally supposed to be released early on Mar. 18, but the district converted it into a full day.

The district also extended school hours, adding 11 minutes onto the end of the day for elementary schools. Middle and high schools will start two minutes earlier than usual and release five minutes later.
