NextGen pledges more money to encourage youth voting

As election day approaches, many believe the turnout of youth voters, which is historically low, will be pivotal in deciding the outcomes of tight races around the country.

NextGen Wisconsin, a progressive advocacy group, announced they will be spending $272,000 on a new ad campaign to encourage turnout among young people in the battleground state.

"Young people make up the largest, most progressive, and most diverse generation this country has ever seen, and this year, we're standing up to demand action from our leaders," State Youth Director George Olufosoye said.

With several of the country's most watched races in the highly contentious campaigns for both governor and U.S. Senate, money is pouring into Wisconsin elections this year.

Though U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., has held a convincing lead in most polls over her Republican challenger Leah Vukmir, Democratic groups have taken the narrow difference between Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic challenger Tony Evers as a sign of the governor’s vulnerability.

"Scott Walker has stood in our way for eight years and put our futures at risk, but if young people turn out to vote in this election, we have the numbers to build a state that will provide prosperity, equality, and justice for each and every one of us,” Olufosoye said.
