Man injured after dispute turns violent on State Street

A 21-year-old man was knocked unconscious after being punched in the face outside of State Street restaurant Mooyah Tuesday evening.

Witnesses of the event reported that the victim was intoxicated and had been harassing someone just prior to the incident.

“[The victim] said, ‘Have you ever exercised a day in your life?’ and she went to slap him, and then her boyfriend punched him in the face and he fell to the ground really hard,” said Delaney Pichotta, a UW-Madison junior who witnessed the incident. “It was really scary … It was very obvious he was super drunk.”

Witnesses called paramedics, and an ambulance was dispatched to the location. Pichotta said the man appeared to still be unconscious while being loaded into the vehicle.

Madison Police Department reported the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to UW Hospital. They identified the suspect as a white male in his 20s.

Gia Dinon contributed to this report.
