Man shot near State Street, suspects at large

A man was shot in the arm near State Street early Wednesday morning, with police still searching for suspects.

The 36-year-old victim was taken to a local emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on the 200 block of West Gilman at State Street area, near the Buckeye Parking Lot.

The victim and another man were walking on State Street when they got into an argument with a group of people. As the dispute escalated, a man pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds.

The shooter and group were believed to have fled the scene in a car, according to MPD Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain. No other details on the suspects have been released.

"The suspects remain at large but we do not feel there is any threat to the public," Lt. Anthony Fiore said in the report.
