Madison Fire Department officials responded to a 911 call on the near-west side Sunday around 10 a.m. They
“The iguana [was] said to be in the midst of its two-month breeding period, a time when iguanas often become more aggressive,” MFD Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster wrote in a daily report.
The attack seriously injured the man, who was holding a towel around his face to control the bleeding when medics arrived.
“He nearly lost half his nose, and he suffered a deep laceration to his upper lip,” Schuster wrote. “Paramedics bandaged up the wounds and transported him to an area hospital, where he received multiple stitches.”
The couple intends to keep the iguana, which they consider to be their “family kid,” according to the report. The man is back home and is expected to make a full recovery.
