UW-Madison student seriously injured after losing control of skateboard

A UW-Madison student was seriously injured after losing control of their skateboard and hitting a light pole on Observatory Drive.

UW-Madison Police Department Director of Communications Marc Lovicott said the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m., Thursday. The individual lost control of their skateboard and may have ran into a car as well as the light pole.

“We'll continue to investigate but as of right now it seems as if it was kind of an accident that happened with the skateboard,” Lovicott said.

Lovicott said two UWPD officers were in the area at the time and were able to respond promptly. The individual was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Lovicott could not release the identity of the individual. The status of their injuries is unknown.
