A stranger attacked a 21-year-old woman on West Gilman Street early Monday morning, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
The woman said she was walking home after a late night of studying when he approached her from behind. The attacker put one hand over her mouth and the other on the back of her neck. She tried to scream but was unable.
She then used her arms to create distance and ran back to State Street where a restaurant worker aided her and walked her home.
MPD has not released a detailed description of the man, besides that he was wearing dark clothing. According to the report, if a good description can be developed, it will be released.
MPD Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain sent out the surveillance images Tuesday morning and asked anyone with information on the suspect to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers.
