Busy adults looking to go back to school can now take advantage of UW-Madison’s 20 new noncredit continuing education programs, according to a Tuesday university release.
The certificates are generally less expensive than traditional degree programs, require less time commitment and offer adaptable schedules.
The programs will be offered in a myriad of formats in order to fit within working professionals’ schedules, including traditional classroom programs, online classes and a blended classroom format, which combines face-to-face class time with online teleconferences, according to the release.
Ndidi Yaucher is among the professionals using the new programs and praised them for their flexibility in the release.
Yaucher took advantage of the program when she became interested in pursuing a career in life coaching, which ultimately led her to complete the Professional Life Coaching Certificate. She cited the blended classroom format as a big draw of the UW-Madison program.
“This was particularly important to me given my busy work travel schedule,” Yaucher said in the release.
The noncredit certificates focus on marketable skills for those seeking advancement in their current careers or looking to make a career change. Programs include a disaster management diploma, laser welding certificate, the substance abuse certificate program and the business Spanish certificate program.
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Sarah Mangelsdorf praised the program for broadening the university’s impact on the state.
“By opening the university’s doors to adults in need of career training the noncredit programs showcased on AdvanceYourCareer.wisc.edu address Wisconsin’s workforce needs,” Mangelsdorf said in the release.
