Madison-area Christian organization raises $120,000 to help the community

The Madison Christian Giving Fund successfully concluded the 2015 year by raising $120,000 in grant money via payroll deductions, private donations and with the help of social media campaigning.

The fund is allocating all of the money to 22 Christian organizations throughout Madison in hopes of combating some of the challenges the city will face in 2016.

Scott Haumersen, chair of the Madison Christian Giving Fund, spoke of the organization’s desire to reach $200,000 by the end of the 2015 year.

“We received 50 applications totaling $514,167 in requests,” Haumersen said.

The organization is also still able to help Christian groups such as Mama’s Sack Lunches, which will receive $5,000 to continue its service to students at Middleton High School. The fund will also be using $2,500 to start a volunteer call center to combat the issue of the human trafficking of minors in Dane County.

Funds will also be used to help the homeless, promote Christian school programming and assist in restorative justice programs in the Madison area. Haumersen stated that nearly half of the funds raised have been specifically designated to help people of color.
