Rotunda research

Students from across the UW System shared their research in the Capitol's rotunda Wednesday.

UW System President congratulates student researchers

Over 200 students, faculty and guests from several UW System campuses gathered in the state Capitol Wednesday morning for Posters in the Rotunda, an undergraduate event.

The event, now in its 12th year, provides an opportunity for students to present their research topics to legislators, university staff members and other students from around Wisconsin.

Praising researchers for the impressive diversity and creativity of their projects, UW System President Ray Cross congratulated students.

Cross described how the dozens of research findings, from the development of a free public transit app to exploring the blurring line between humans and artificial intelligence, are a testament to how these students are “improving the human condition,” a part of the UW System mission statement.

Cross thanked faculty members for helping students to understand the research process and stimulate curiosity.

“We cannot lose sight of the fact that you, the faculty and the staff and those of us supporting this process, are helping students learn how to teach, but also, how to lead,” Cross said.

Cross encouraged the researchers to share their enthusiasm with visitors both at the event and in their respective communities.

“They’re willing to invest in your mission, and you,” Cross said, imploring students to show how their work is “contagious” and opens the door for further opportunities.

Students presented on other areas including education and income among Wisconsin Native Americans, gender bias in academic performance, archaic site modeling and strategic use of public information offices by state judiciaries.
