Academic Staff

Members of the Academic Staff Executive Committee review candidates for the new Board of Regents shared governance task force.

UW System creates task forces in response to proposed budget

The UW System is creating two task forces in response to Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget, first announced by Board of Regents President Michael Falbo at a meeting earlier this month.

The task forces will address a Board policy in two areas, shared governance and tenure, will act as a liaison between the Board of Regents and UW System institutions. They could both be deleted from Chapter 36 under state law, which backs up the powers and responsibilities of shared governance.

The Academic Staff Executive Committee met Tuesday to vote and nominate a member to the shared governance task force. Members elected ASEC member Michael Moscicke, who will be considered for the role by the Board of Regents this week.

Chaired by Regent Gerald Whitburn, the shared governance task force will be comprised of one or two chancellors, various deans and UW System administrators, three members of faculty, academic and university staff and three students, according to a UW System release.

The tenure task force will be chaired by Regent John Behling, one chancellor, two provosts, one dean and 10 tenured faculty from various UW System universities and colleges.
