Dane County hospitals, facilities prepare for possibility of ebola outbreaks

Public Health - Madison & Dane County is working with Dane County hospitals, clinics, emergency response teams and UW-Madison in preparation for potential Ebola outbreaks in the area.

Although risk of Ebola is not a major concern and there have been no reported cases in Dane County, facilities have readied protective equipment and have emergency plans for any such outbreak, following the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state guidelines.

UW-Madison and PHMDC staff are contacting and monitoring students, staff and other individuals who have recently traveled or are planning on traveling to Guinea, Sierra Leone or Liberia.

PHMDC Director Janel Heinrich thanked the facilitators in the release for helping prepare the plan and protect the community.

“Partners are meeting regularly to make sure they are aware of each other’s plans, and can provide support and communication with each other if there is a case in Dane County,” Heinrich said in the release.
