10-12-14 UPDATE: While police have not identified a suspect and the case remains under investigation, the Star of David pendant and all the stolen electronics have been recovered.
The report indicates someone apparently left the items outside the fraternity house overnight in a stolen backpack. However, the stolen cash was not recovered.
10-9-14 ORIGINAL: A burglar stole a Holocaust-era family heirloom early Wednesday morning from a fraternity residence on North Henry Street, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
Four men, aged 19 to 20, were sleeping in the student residence on the 600 block of N. Henry St. when the burglar entered the home and stole electronics, money and a Star of David pendant with the Hebrew letter Shin attached to a gold necklace.
The residents discovered the electronics and money were missing, according to the report. While the victims were able to estimate the monetary losses, they could not value the heirloom.
“The worth of such a pendant goes far beyond dollars and cents,” MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain wrote in the report.
An officer responded to the cold burglary scene in the morning, according to the report.
Police released a surveillance picture of a person of interest in this case Thursday and asked anyone recognizing the individual to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
