Madison to host fifth annual Community Breastfeeding Awards

Madison will host its fifth annual Community Breastfeeding Awards ceremony in May to promote security for nursing women in public areas, according to Jeff Golden of Public Health Madison & Dane County.

The deadline for nominations is April 1. Nomination forms and instructions for submissions can be found on the official website.

The Breastfeeding Coalition of South Central Wisconsin and Public Health Madison are hosting the ceremony to allow businesses a chance to advertise themselves as a breastfeeding-friendly establishment and promote the health benefits of breastfeeding.

“We’re helping to promote an incredibly positive, healthy activity that benefits newborns and, at the same time, push for creating welcoming environments where people don’t feel like their jobs are at stake,” Golden said.

The Coalition aims to remove the stigma associated with public breastfeeding by raising awareness and commending establishments all across the nation.

Establishments in Madison that have received awards in previous years include the downtown Overture Center for the Arts, the Monona Terrace, and the Madison Public Library at 201 W. Mifflin St.
