Young Progressives student group endorses Leland Pan for Dane County Board

The Young Progressives student group announced its endorsement of incumbent Leland Pan Tuesday for his reelection in the Dane County Board race, according to a press release.

Pan will run against University of Wisconsin-Madison senior Chris Hoffman for District 5 representative in the 2014 elections. He previously won the election for County Board in 2012 to serve as the voice of the student body on the board.

Sean Hoey, president of Young Progressives, said he is enthusiastic about supporting Pan.

“Leland was a true leader on the board. He had experience in government that will really lend itself to being a good representative for District 5,” Hoey said.

According to the release, Leland dedicated his first term to finding more housing for Dane County’s homeless community and raising funds for important student services.

Pan also sought to decriminalize marijuana during his last term in an attempt to minimize racial disparities. According to Pan, more minorities are cited for marijuana possession despite the equal use of the drug among all races. Pan came up with a referendum to ask Wisconsin residents if they would support the legalization of marijuana on their ballot in April, which was passed unanimously by the County Board.
