UW-Madison seeking second phase MOOCs

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking proposals for the second phase of Massive Open Online Courses in its pilot year, according to a release.

MOOCs are virtual teaching, learning and research experiences not for credit but available to anyone with an Internet connection.

More than 96,000 students from all 50 states and more than 155 countries have participated in the program since UW-Madison launched four pilot courses in the 2013-’14 school year.

The four courses currently offered are about globalized higher education, video games, friction markets and human evolution.

Coordinators will assess second phase proposals based on their ability to engage with and benefit students, as well as how the course aligns with faculty members’ teaching portfolios and department curricular goals.

Content developed during the second round must also be directly applicable to existing or anticipated courses for enrolled UW-Madison students.

University officials expect the next round of pilot courses to launch in the fall. Interested faculty members should apply by 4:30 p.m. March 11.
