Madison Police Department investigates forged checks

A 22-year-old woman attempted to a cash a check worth $4,050 at a loan store before Madison police found her guilty of fraud, according to an incident report.

Signed by the woman’s presumed employer, “Ryan Henderson,” the forged check appeared to be compensation for the woman’s packaging and reshipping job she had acquired over the Internet, according to Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain in the report. The woman told police the check was authentic after she tried to cash it at the 1907 S. Park St. PLS Loan Store location.

The check seemed to have been issued by the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters Welfare & Pensions Fund, an offshoot organization of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters. The organization seeks to help carpenter workers in the area find a retirement plan that works with their respective circumstances, according to their website.

DeSpain said CRCC fund managers are aware of the business’s connection to the string of fraudulent checks as the issue was previously brought to the organization’s attention.
