Madison police arrested a man after he attempted to steal a bicycle from Budget Bicycles Saturday afternoon, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

Kip Kuhlman, a 51-year-old man, entered the store, located on 930 Regent Street, at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to the report by MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain. Kuhlman struck casual conversation with an employee before he grabbed a $590 Raleigh bicycle, according to DeSpain.

The employee was able to obtain the bike from Kuhlman by chasing him before Kuhlman escaped, according to the report. Madison police were contacted shortly after with a description of the suspect.

Police were able to track down Kuhlman near Orchard Street, walking on a bike path, according to the report. Kuhlman was later arrested for retail theft.
