The Madison Police Department announced Thursday the resignation of an officer following a prolonged investigation into accusations the officer was involved in a domestic situation and used police authority for personal reasons, according to a MPD press release.
While denying the claims initially, the police officer eventually admitted to using law enforcement power to acquire a surveillance video from a local Madison business.
According to the release, the officer used the videos for reasons outside the realm of professionalism.
During the course of the investigation, the Dane County District Attorney’s office reported the officer would most likely not be charged with any criminal infractions, according to the release. However, MPD investigators did find the officer in violation of unlawful conduct and untruthfulness policies, leading to the officer’s resignation.
At this time, no details regarding the police officer’s name or domestic situation have been released.
