City of Madison declares snow emergency until Tuesday

The city of Madison declared a city-wide snow emergency Sunday that will last until 7 a.m. Tuesday, and will affect side parking throughout city streets, according to a news release.

Starting Jan. 27, during the evening, cars parked on the streets must park on the even house-numbered side of the road, according to the release. Violators will be subject to $60 fines along with the risk of having their vehicle towed, according to the release.

For residents who have nowhere to park their vehicle overnight, city ramps will allow free parking from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. However, cars stored for over 48 hours will be at risk of being towed or drivers will be ticketed.

The Brittingham Park Shelter off of West Washington Avenue will also allow parking for residents in need.

All daytime parking restrictions will be in effect during the snow emergency . There are selected blocks in the downtown and Isthmus area that restrict all parking during a snow emergency, according to the release.
