Police Chief hiring team seek community input at public event Monday

The Madison Police Department is seeking the public’s feedback in selecting the new chief of law enforcement for the city, according to a press release.

Assistant Chief Randy Gaber assumed the office following former Chief Noble Wray’s Sept. 27 retirement after nearly a decade in the post.

The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners, the primary hiring body for the police Chief position, is currently developing a timeline and working out the details of the selection process to hopefully appoint the new head of the MPD by early 2014.

According to the release, the PFC will host a listening session to collect the public’s input on the selection process as well as the needs of the community at the newly re-opened Downtown branch of the Madison Public Library, located at 201 W. Mifflin St., at 5 p.m. Monday.

“We actively seek comment regarding the needs of the City and the department from members of the public, government officials, academic and professional experts, and members of the department,” PFC attorney Scott Herrick said in the release.
