Police arrest 23-year-old for 'jumping' atop a squad car

Madison police arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly "jumping up and down" on the hood of a Madison Police Department squad car parked on the 500 block of State Street Saturday, MPD spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a police report.

DeSpain said the incident occurred at approximately 2:16 a.m. when an on-duty downtown officer witnessed Zachary Zweifel leap from the trunk, over the roof and to the hood of the car. The total damage is estimated to cost $1,000.

According to the report, Zweifel proceeded to lead the officer on a foot pursuit and eventually ran into a fenced-in, dead end on Frances Street, where police were able to apprehend the suspect.

DeSpain said police arrested Zweifel, who told an arresting officer he was “just trying to impress [his] friends,” for criminal damage to property as well as resisting arrest.
