Domestic violence homicides report for 2011, 2012 released

End Domestic Violence Wisconsin released a report Monday documenting Wisconsin domestic violence-related fatalities in 2011 and 2012, according to a press release.

With the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month Oct. 1, the group said it hopes the data and stories will motivate people to become more active in preventing domestic abuse, according to the release.

The state had 31 domestic violence homicide incidents, which resulted in 32 deaths, in 2011, the report said. In 2012, 38 domestic violence homicide incidents resulted in 48 deaths.

In 2011, domestic violence homicide incidents occurred in 12 Wisconsin counties, according to the report. However, in 2012, 21 counties are represented in the domestic homicide incident listing.

In 2012, Dane County had three domestic violence-related incidents, resulting in three homicides, according to the report. There were also three domestic violence homicides in 2011, but in that same year, three homicides accounted for two incidents.

According to the report, victims’ ages range from 1 to 84 years old.
