Police found and arrested a man who stole a customer’s purse at Cooper’s Tavern, located on 20 W. Mifflin St., with help from a credit card company Friday, according to a city incident report.
Police arrested 40-year-old Wallace Weaver after he stole a 27-year-old woman’s purse and used one of her credit cards, according to the report.
The victim, a Mount Horeb native, said she had the purse hanging on the back of her chair at the restaurant. When she realized it was missing, she called her credit card companies, according to the report, and one of the companies said her credit card had been used at a Park Street restaurant.
The Madison Police Department located the suspect, who had the victim’s purse and cell phone, outside the Park Street restaurant, the report said.
Police found other items belonging to the victim, including stolen credit cards, scattered outside the restaurant, according to the report.
