Drunk, texting student hit by car Friday

An intoxicated University of Wisconsin-Madison student who was walking and texting suffered a possible concussion from being hit by a car while crossing University Avenue early Friday morning, according to a police report.

Police are still searching for the driver responsible for the hit and run, whose vehicle police describe as “gold, silver or black,” the report said.

The 20-year-old student was crossing the 500 block of University Avenue with friends at approximately 1:07 a.m., but fell behind her group of friends because she was texting, Madison Police Department Lt. Marianne Flynn Statz said in the report.

According to Flynn Statz, “her friends heard a thump [and] when they turned around they saw her lying in the roadway.”

The victim sustained a possible concussion and other non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. She was transported to a local hospital.
