Farmers' Market

Campus Farmers Market to take place Thursdays through October

The Wisconsin Union Dining Services kicked off the first Campus Farmers' Market Thursday on Union South’s north lawn, an event they hope will draw together local area vendors every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until Oct. 24.

According to a release, students on the dining services committee developed the idea for the market. They also selected a time close to the weekend, when students are more likely to eat fresh produce, Wisconsin Union Dining Services assistant director Carl Korz said in the release.

Korz also expressed he is hopeful the farmer’s market will begin appealing to a larger crowd over time.

“The event provides convenient access for students to local produce and gives them an opportunity to meet and greet their local food providers, as well as learning about local food practices,” Korz said in the release.

Melanie Blaser, a sophomore who visited the farmer’s market Thursday, said there were approximately three vendor tables selling a variety of produce.

“It was pretty small, but I thought it was good,” Blaser said. “It would be really cool if it was a big event, I would definitely go every week.”
