University of Wisconsin-Madison police determined a grenade found Monday in a university building was an inactive training weapon and posed no threat to the public, according to a press release.
A staff member in Bardeen Laboratories, located at 1215 Linden Dr., called the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department at approximately 3:20 p.m. to report a grenade he or she found in a third floor office desk while cleaning, the release said.
Although police initially identified the weapon as an inert training device, the release said officers evacuated the second, third and fourth floor of the building to be sure the grenade presented absolutely no danger.
People were allowed to re-enter the building shortly after 5:00 p.m., according to the release, which also said UWPD is conducting an investigation into who owns the equipment.
