A gun control survey released by The Wisconsin Professional Police Association, a neutral organization on gun control, showed most Wisconsinites would support tightening the state’s gun control laws.
The survey showed 47 percent of respondents believe the current gun laws should be stricter. In comparison, 43 percent think the laws should stay the same while 8 percent think the regulation should be loosened.
The numbers separated to some extent when age was taken into account, with 63 percent of people 55 years old or older saying the gun laws should be stricter, but only 34 percent of people 34 and younger wanting to strengthen the regulations.
Additionally, 83 percent of people who said law enforcement declined responded that gun laws needed tightening.
Gun regulations have become a focal point nationwide after the Newtown massacre earlier this year, and their implications continue to play out in areas ranging from college campuses to small towns across the country.
