A Madison resident faces a felony charge after he drunkenly stole and crashed a vehicle into a public art sculpture on the Capitol Square Thursday, according to a police statement.
Michael Rivera, 20, was kicked off a Madison Metro bus around 12:15 a.m. after he fell asleep intoxicated past the driver’s final route, according to the report.
Rivera later entered an unattended Metro Pontiac Vibe and drove it around Capitol Square in the wrong direction, according to the statement. He lost control and crashed the vehicle into an arch-shaped sculpture next to the Wisconsin Veterans Museum around 12:56 a.m.
The report said the suspect had two cans of beer in his pockets, a blood alcohol level of .17 and no valid driver’s license.
Although the car was heavily damaged, Rivera was uninjured, according to the report.
