The second inmate to go AWOL from the Dane County jail in three days returned Monday afternoon, according to a press release from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Marcel Taylor, 45, left the jail Monday morning unescorted and with permission to attend a medical appointment, according to the release.
Paul Richardson, 24, another inmate who went AWOL Friday after being released for a similar medical appointment, has not yet returned.
Both men’s sentences include huber, a stipulation included by the judge that gives convicts certain privileges to leave the jail to attend work, medical appointments, treatment programs or school, according to Dane County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Elise Schaffer.
Schaffer said inmates going AWOL is not uncommon, but sentencing with huber has proven successful in the past.
“Considering the number of inmates that we have in the jail that are sentenced with huber, there’s certainly a lot more that comply than don’t,” Shaffer said.
